A good breakfast bowl follows a simple formula: a creamy base, something crunchy, fresh fruit and a little extra protein. Once you know the pattern you can build endless combinations from whatever is in the fridge.
The base
Thick yoghurt, blended frozen banana or overnight oats all work well. Make a few jars of oats on Sunday evening and the rest of the week takes care of itself.
Five combinations to try
- Berry crunch: yoghurt, mixed berries, toasted oats and a drizzle of honey.
- Tropical: blended mango, sliced kiwi, coconut flakes and lime zest.
- Chocolate morning: oats with cocoa, banana coins and chopped nuts.
- Green glow: spinach and banana smoothie base with seeds and apple.
- Autumn spice: oats with cinnamon, baked apple and a spoon of nut butter.
Keep toppings in clear jars at eye level in the cupboard. When you can see them, you’ll actually use them.
The best breakfast is the one you’ll still be making in three months.

Great tips, especially the point about starting small.
Saved this for later. Really well written.
I’ve been doing this for a month and it really works.
Love the practical list. Thank you for sharing!
